Atheism Is Not My God
Upon discovering this disturbing image today amongst all the net-surfing, I began to wonder. What are the artist’s affiliations? He/she must certainly be religious on some level. One who is enveloped by religion cannot understand or fathom the idea of removing a god completely. I have no god; I don’t have the need. I am a very moral and ethical person; I live my life happily and peacefully.
In the case of a religious person, if you were to remove religion and god, every other aspect of their life would continue just the same. Yet many theists believe atheists are “god-haters”. I can’t hate something I have no feelings for. I simply could not (even if I wanted to) hate the nonexistent.
If it weren’t for religion and god being tossed around on a daily basis, I wouldn’t care. That is to say I’m only concerned about the lack of godliness because falsities are pushed upon me on a regular basis. I hear illogical statements often and seek some form of justice. The idea of needing some godliness in one’s life is like refusing to accept that there is no tooth fairy.

In Romans 1:18,19, the Bible says that God has revealed Himself to everyone. As this chapter goes on, God has given you the choice to either acknowledge him as Lord of your life, or He will give you up to your own devices.
Everyone has a god, even if that god is your own desires. Have you ever thought to yourself why you are here?
Why is it so hard for for an atheist to understand the idea of a God?
Of course I wonder. I am intrigued by the universe constantly. But what does that have to do with a god?
I think they call it the scientific method…. I understand many versions of god. But the thing is that there are too many versions, none of which work for me. I also understand unicorns and goblins. Stories are not meant to base one’s life around. Just live.
Its the equivalent of calling bald a hair color. The guy thinks that it is technically impossible to NOT have a God of some type.
Fucking goalpost shifting idiot.
It’s an interesting idea I heard the other day, that everybody are atheists. There are too many gods to count, and even the most hardcore christian don’t believe in other than his, let me see……father, son, and the.. (never mind) god. So, as a believer of one type of god, they reject all the other competing gods. They are in fact like you and me; atheists towards all those gods they don’t believe in.
Had poor ol’ Aaron actually been paying attention, he would’ve noticed tat I had spelled the word “god” with a small “g”, as opposed to a capital “G”. Yes, this changes the meaning quite a bit.
Looks like I’m not the only fucking goalpost shifting idiot around here
To answer that comment, Roger, in order to be counted as a theist, you only have to believe in one god. So your comment is off-base. An atheist is a person who does not believe in a god.
IMHO, claiming that atheism is an atheist’s religion is dishonesty at it’s most obvious. Xians who make such a claim are using this definition of “religion”:
something that one holds in high regard or importance
when what they are actually referring to is this definition of “religion”:
a system of belief centered around a god or gods, or other higher being(s)
By freely exchanging the definitions, xians make it seem as if one is the same as the other. And that is simply dishonest.
Sorry DustofTheRabboni, you are incorrect.
You are an atheist to Zeus, are you not? So therefore we are all atheists on some level. The day you understand why you discard the other religion’s gods, you will understand why yours seems just as silly to me.
I have no need for religion. I am a moral and ethical being, who enjoys her short time here. I have a bigger heart and bigger conscience than more god-fearers (or God-fearers).
In any case, I was just pointing out that theists don’t get the idea of not having a need for a god (or God or gods) in their life.
What’s the difference how you spell god? It still has the same meaning.
I am curious what you base your ethics and morals on. If you are a relativist then in actuality there is no ethics or morals. For what you think is good, others would think is not.
Christians realize that they are sinners by the Ten Commandments and base their ethics and morals on these. We also realize that we will never be good enough, for we all fall short of the glory of God.
If you did believe in heaven or an afterlife, what would get you there? Do you think you are a good person?
Based on the Ten Commandments, if you have ever lied, you are a liar?
If you ever stole, even something little you are a theif. If you ever looked at someone in a lustful way, based on what Jesus said, you have committed adultery. If you have ever gotten really angry at someone and hated them, you have committed murder. So, based on this we are all destined for hell. As Christians, we realize that we are in need of a Savior from hell. That’s why God sent Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins, for the penalty of sin is death. All we have to do to save us from eternal hell is to ask him Jesus in to our heart. For whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Are you ready?
I go by not hurting people and treating people with respect. I believe when you die you die, so I have fun while I’m here.
I don’t go to religious sites to preach; Christians are the only ones who do that. I have surveyed several religions and was raised Jewish. So by your standards I’d be going to “hell” anyway so what do you care?
When you die and rot, you’ll know.
Anyway, Christianity doesn’t hold good morals. Jesus said don’t beat your slaves too much. And rape isn’t a crime. That’s worse than murder in some cases! For a religious person to contest that there is any ethics or morals to be learned from religion needs to develop one’s own conscience and common sense.
I am curious, dustoftherabboni, what you base your ethics and morals on? Are morals good because your god commands it or does your god command it because it is good? If the first, then your morals are just as weak as any relativist. If the second, then why do we need a god to discover them?
