Answers to the Friendly Atheist’s FAQ

Answers to the Friendly Atheist’s FAQ:

Why do you not believe in God?
Because I have no need for god in my life. My life is wonderful without god; I’m in constant awe of nature and the universe. Besides, I refuse to base my entire life’s philosophy for a mere (and small) possibility.

Where do your morals come from?
Within myself. Morals cannot come from religion because theists still pick and choose what “morals” are just wrong.

What is the meaning of life?
That’s an obtuse question. There are many meanings to life. For lifeforms to flourish and grow. Learn.

Is atheism a religion?
Not at all. The only time it resembles religion is when religion poisons society and we must take a stand.

If you don’t pray, what do you do during troubling times?
Talk to loved ones, meditate and stretch (Zen), write, and listen to music.

Why Religion Matters To Me

In a blog I wrote months ago, I posted a video entitled, “Why Atheists Care About Religion”. To most atheists and secular humanists, its obvious. But to all the religious folks out there who inquire, “if you don’t like religion, why do you talk about it so much?” Unlike some, I do not prefer the ignorance is bliss theory (though I am very happy). In case you are one of those who ask the preceding question, I will give a short list of how religion has poisoned society:

  • Missionaries in Africa (set up by the American Religious Right) enforcing no condom usage on a population with a much higher AIDS/HIV ratio.
  • Not wanting to teach children about sex. Not even distinguishing “good touch” from “bad touch”.
  • The abstinence program taught in schools does not introduce masturbation or pornography as healthy alternatives. Instead, they want to shelter kids from sexual thoughts altogether.
