Rock music something something Devil

If rock music has anything to do with this so-called devil, please explain this:

Growing up Jewish, these things always bugged me. We weren’t religious (really at all), but referred to myself as Jewish without thinking twice. Crosses everywhere always made me feel left out. Not just traditional Christian crosses, but “rock crosses” in addition to other fashionable ones (like the ones Madonna used to wear). I always stood outside Christianity so I suppose I’m used to it.

Vampires
Many movies have debunked the part of the vampire myth that suggests a cross is a valid weapon against these creatures. However, it is still is used. I always found it odd that a cross could do the trick, but a Star of David was useless against vampires.

This part of Christianity really cheeses me off. The notion that only their God is the only true god and that their cross is the only means of debunking “evil”.

Gothic Culture
I just don’t get why Goths are religious/wear crosses. I used to be goth, in a sense. I wore more black than most teens and listened to… well the same music I do now (which ranges from Nine Inch Nails to Ani DiFranco to Massive Attack to Pink Floyd). I never did the clown makeup, only dark red or purple lipstick. And never ever wore crosses. That would have upset my parents more than being goth. lol My mom wears a lot of black anyway, so that didn’t phase her much.

Gothic crosses seem to be much bigger today than in my day (which is only about 10 years ago), but they did exist and my gothic friends from Christian households (whether they were practicing or not) wore them occasionally. I didn’t get it then and I don’t get it now. I guess rebellion only goes so far. Yet it works well for the atheist image in general because we are not rebelling or going along with counter-culture. (No matter what some people may think.)

Rock Culture
Which brings me right back where I started: wtf is up with all these “rock crosses”?
