Support for torture stronger among the faithful

According to CNN:

More than half of people who attend services at least once a week — 54 percent — said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified. Only 42 percent of people who “seldom or never” go to services agreed, according to the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified — more than six in 10 supported it. People unaffiliated with any religious organization were least likely to back it. Only four in 10 of them did.

So, an eye for an eye but never turn the other cheek?

Well – consider how many evangelical Protestants believe that Hell is a place of eternal torment for nonbelievers… then think of how many are actually smug about that.

If someone has no problem with god torturing human beings for eternity in the afterlife, then it’s no surprise they’d find it just fine to torture human beings in the here and now.

    LOL.

“Well – consider how many evangelical Protestants believe that Hell is a place of eternal torment for nonbelievers…”

I would’ve thought it would be “Kill ‘em all, let god sort ‘em out”. Or something to that effect of not being able to understand god’s logic, so let him decide. But I guess not. These faithful people (alluded to in this article) like their torture doubled up, I suppose.
