Alan Greenspan, former Fed Chairman and ::gasp:: Atheist

Don’t mind the poorly-written source, but apparently Alan Greenspan is a “devout” atheist and the Christians find this very important:

Wethink it is relevant and important to understand that Alan Greenspan isa devout Atheist. More importantly his belief system can be directlyconnected to the financial meltdown. Many people are not aware thatAlan Greenspan was a disciple of Ayn Rand and a member of her groupknown as the “Collective“. After earning his Masters in `1950,Greenspan became a 20-year associate of famed philosopher Ayn Rand, author of books “The Virtue of Selfishness,”"Atlas Shrugged”. Greenspanwrote for Rand’s newsletters and authored a chapter for a Rand book.

Other than the obvious lack of spell/grammar check, which is going crazy with dotted red lines, there are other fallacies. Mainly logical ones.

Why is it we can try an label politicians as “socialists” in attemptto ruin careers yet we defend and tip-toe around “Atheists” like theyare Bambis .

Would we have put a known “Communist” in the position of Fed Chair, of course not. Yet the Atheist who destroyed our economy and believes”money is the barometer of societies virtue” gets a free pass.

Destroyed our economy? Did someone fall asleep for eight years?

Isn’t it ironic. The Trustee of “In God We Trust” was an Atheist.

“In God We Trust” was ultimately added for production and delivery to currency in  the 1960′s. It was never intended by our forefathers & mothers, so no its not “ironic” in the slightest.

Had our elected leaders, simply asked Mr. Greenspan, years ago, if hebelieved the United States was a nation under God , perhaps we maynot be in the financial catastrophe we find ourselves in today.

Atheism is a man made construct, like communism orsocialism and without a concern in the world we put them in charge ofour financial system. Nobody seems to care.

How can atheism be man-made? We are all born atheists, we die atheists. You choose to believe in whatever you wish to. Theism is not the “default” position. And why should anyone care?

We strongly believe in a separation of Church and State, our troopsare dying in Iraq to defend that prinicipal but we still are a country “One Nation Under God” and now our Government, like neverbefore, needs to defend that principal and defend it with pride andresolve. The words need to mean something.

Separation of Church and State implies leaving God out of politics.

Ugh, I can no longer even respond to these ignorant remarks. This is disgustingly mean. And the reason atheists fight for equality, tolerance, acceptance, and respect.

um.. So Ayn Rand is the new hot button issue for the freaky, deformed right wing? Yeah, that will work well.

Keep in mind that: Randians are as batshit crazy as any Christian, Alan Greenspan was batshit crazy, and Greenspan himself is responsible to no small degree for the current financial crisis.

Randians and Libertarians are, of course, a tiny minority of atheists, and atheism in no way entails or even particularly encourages Randianism or Libertarianism. Sometimes an atheist is someone with one fewer stupid idea than a theist.

He may be crazy, I don’t know. Many say his predicted this when no one would listen and he is in no way responsible. However, I am not clinging to that explanation at all.

Though, I don’t think it’s fair to say he ruined the economy because doesn’t he believe in god, which is the main message I got from this piece. That’s just ignorant and mean.

When Alan Greenspan was serving as the Fed Chairman, both Democrats and Republicans supported him. The economy did quite well under him when compared to today. I am 71 so I remember his tenure. When bible-thumpers like George W. Bush are given the power to govern us, that is when we should beware. There are many very intelligent men and women who are agnostic or atheist but will not publicly admit it because it would hurt them socially and professionally. I studied and researched the Bible for several years trying to determine if the God it describes was real or a created by the old scribes. You can check out my book and discover what I concluded from my study.

One slight correction… While “In God We Trust” didn’t appear on a federal reserve note until 1964, it first appeared on coins in 1864, and on paper money in 1957 (on the one-dollar silver certificate).
