Via Planned Parenthood:
This morning, President Obama nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice David Souter.
If confirmed, Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic woman to serve on the court, reminding us that, with hard work and commitment, all things are truly possible in America.
Judge Sotomayor has vast experience in nearly every aspect of the law, having served as a big-city prosecutor and a corporate litigator, a federal trial judge on the U.S. District Court, and an appellate judge on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
She understands that upholding the rule of law means going beyond legal theory to ensure consistent, fair, commonsense application of the law to real-world facts.
Here’s to a speedy confirmation.
No one can be sure how she will rule, but I have heard mostly good and neutral things regarding Sotomayor, as of yet. She’s a centrist, so Obama is trying to keep his promise by bridging the gap between left and right. Fairly played. As long as she fully understands and is dedicated to upholding the separation of church and state that our forefathers/mothers fought so hard for, I’ll be pleased.
In any case, she does have a long list of rulings and opinions.
I don’t know if its because she’s a women, a Hispanic, or not a staunch Conservative but some Republicans will do what ever they can to filibuster. Again.
