We always secretly thought that Molly was the Jewish one, but now the wildly successful American Girl has released an official Jewish doll. Our inner 11-year-old girls are simply plotzing.
Does this mean all the others must be Christian by default? How do dolls have religions anyway? Are they like that of animals, even though they have human features? Do they pray? To the same god as their owner or to a different Doll God?
I won’t bother to pay attention to these silly dolls too much. (I’m currently childless and loving it.) Yet, I understand how toys and dolls effect children. Shockingly, I was once a little girl.
