We're all chosen people

And things got worse..

I haven’t posted in a bit. I edited this previous post, but this deserves its own post, maybe several. My father passed on Monday. He had lung cancer and was doing better with treatment, but it only left his defenses down. He suddenly became ill with Septicemia, called 911 with inconceivably bad stomach cramps. He was rushed into emergency surgery where they removed most of his large intestine and colon. My mom called me that Monday, July 6th and said he signed a DNR previous to this surgery and said they were going to remove the breathing tube Wednesday and he probably would not make it. Eric & I booked a flight to Miami the next day.

The first couple days of being there, my dad was out of it, but they removed the rube and he was doing better than expected. We had a few good days together in CCU wearing yellow gowns and blue gloves for safety measures. Or so they don’t get sued.

We left for Los Angeles to go back to work that following Tuesday. He was doing better and I was optimistic. A few days later, they sent him home in an ambulance prematurely and he had to be rushed to the emergency room an hour and a half later. I had a gut feeling that my father wouldn’t live long after that debacle. They transported him to hospice until my mom decided how to rearrange stuff at home so she could be with him. Unfortunately, that never happened. He passed this Monday, July 20th. I haven’t been able to say that for a few days.

Perhaps, I will do some type of tribute to my father soon. But I don’t think I’m ready now.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my father to lung cancer as well years ago. While I cannot know exactly what you go through, I can relate on some level.

The day finally came for me where I would think back on my dad and smile rather than cry. I hope that day comes for you soon, if it hasn’t already.
