Why Aren’t More Women Atheists?

Lately, I’ve been checking out atheist blogs that are new to my eyes. Gotta love that atheist blogroll! So, I’m looking at Infidelis Maximus‘ blog, where to the right there are several videos of female atheists. Which begs the simple question: Why aren’t there more? Could it be the family closeness that religion feigns to embody? Otherwise, it would be extremely hard to believe that these women enjoy being thought of as less than. What happen to sisterhood and feminism?...

Judaism Is a Religion. Is Jewishness its Own Thing?

I’m not quite sure what I mean by “own thing”. I don’t know about race; however, it has an obtuse definition. According to dictionary.com, “a group of persons related by common descent or heredity” constitute race. So, then is Jewishness a race? I try to steer away from the term when speaking of the Jewish people because it brings up so many negative connotations somewhat due to Hitler’s beliefs against the “Jewish race”. I will sometimes...

Christian Superiority

After my most recent post about it being okay in America to believe in our one god however you deem necessary, I have a follow-up. This is from a personal stance, I’d have to admit. I have always been an atheist to the Christian god. I will to go slightly off-topic and steer you right back. There are two main reasons persons raised of the Jewish faith have a harder time admitting atheism. First off, there is a sense that we have to stick together after all the atrocities that have been...

This video got me thinking. If she was a Jew or Muslim, then it would be different. If a group were to hold hands and praise god, if one were to stand up and say I am Jewish, then some would retort, however you choose to worship god is fine. But as long as you worship? Clearly, they’d all be worshiping different gods. So how could that make any sense? They’ll probably have different ideals of some afterlife and a different idea on what god is to him/her. So, then how would your...

Got Soul?

What does the word soul mean to you? In my experience, I have always used it to refer to one’s essence: the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being.  Does that have to imply a religious spirit? I’ve always contemplated this. At about 14 I began writing poems and other free-form styles. Rarely used in common speech, I often used soul in writing. It felt right sometimes and rhymed with a bunch of things. Even the term spirit had its place. I like to think all humans...

Humanism & the Symposium

I haven’t written much lately. I go through these phases were I’m feeling more inclined to blog than others. Sometimes it lasts a few days, or as much as a few weeks. My feelings on major issues rarely change. Perhaps they morph, mutate, and rearrange. But never fully change. I’m not opposed to change; I love change. I also love improvement. Anything that can help me grow and evolve into a better version of myself. I’ve always been more of a short story, journal, and...
