Artist Sebastian Errazuriz says Jesus Popsicles are a statement on fanaticism and violence

Sebastian Errazuriz, Brooklyn-based artist, is pointing out the violence of religious extremism with bloody popsicles.

At a party this weekend celebrating New York Design Week, which begins today, the Chilean-born artist plans to hand out 100 “Christian Popsicles” made of “frozen holy wine transformed into the blood of Christ” and featuring a crucifix instead the tongue depressor that typically hosts the frozen treats, he said.

An image of Jesus Christ positioned traditionally on the cross is visible once the ice pop is consumed. As for the frozen wine, Errazuriz said, he concealed it in a cooler and took it into a church, where it was “inadvertently blessed by the priest while turning wine into the blood of Christ during the Eucharist.”

Errazuriz will hand out the wine creations on Saturday at Gallery R’Pure in Manhattan’s Flatiron District before the “Love It or Leave it” exhibit.

The phrase “inadvertently blessed” does make me chuckle.

Wine popsicles? I can see those taking off on their own.

I actually got a well-paying freelance side job. Lately, I’ve been busy with managing websites and design elements.

Licensing Original Artwork

I’ve been busy lately but plan to continue blogging again. In my spare time, I’ve been looking into avenues of licensing artwork. You can see some of my work at my portfolio site. Though I recently redid that site, so not everything is up yet.

You may also check out a slideshow I put together with some of my older pieces.

I just felt like mentioning this in case anyone has any ideas. I don’t really expect much from this post but it can’t hurt to put it out there. ;)

My Newest Store, Rational Rose

For my newest design endeavor, I opened up another store: Rational Rose. As some of you may know, I already design for Radshirt and The Coming Out Godless Project. To the left, I have my image “Find the holes in what they tell you”. I originally created this many years ago and wanted to update it. I made it as part of an expression of my atheist/skeptic/feminist attitude. Essentially, see past the bullshit “they” tell you.

I’ve always loved the idea of this image. So much that I bought a shirt of my own. It should arrive soon and I plan on wearing it to TAM this year. :)

Rational Rose is still new, so there are only a few things so far, but I plan on putting more of my artwork up and basic rational gear.

Surly-Ramics Rocket Ring

Skeptic’s Choice Snake Oil

This one I recently created and added it to a plethora of products. On it’s face, it appears to just be a cute parody. However, there are a couple things to notice. Firstly, the pole or scepter going through the snake is similar to that from the rod of Asclepius and the caduceus, but with it’s own look. Secondly, the design reminds me of a dollar symbol; which is what snake oil has always been about. It works on many levels. ;)
