“Well, that’s rude,” many Christians would say. But isn’t that what the conservative Christians do regarding Islam? It inspired me to make this image:

Seen this? “Everything I need to know about Islam I learned on 9/11”

Well, then, I could just as easily say: Everything I need to know about Christianity I learned from the crusades.

Islam has a lot of problem in it, as do all religions. Islam isn’t that much different, it’s only newer and there’s been no reformation. Hatred and violence are in the Bible just as the Koran. Don’t get me wrong, I do not defend Islam. I also don’t defend Christianity or Judaism.

However, Islam may be a bigger problem because its horrors from it are happening now. The crusades were 800-900 years ago. The doings of Islam are more prevalent in today’s world. While Islam is a bigger issue, if I said the latter, “Everything I need to know about Christianity I learned from the crusades,” there’d be a barrage of negative comments from Christians telling me why that “logic” is false.

Wha-wha-wha-what?! Gingrich apparently doesn’t understand what atheism or secularism is. He may have a faint idea of what radical Islam is but he’s probably not too knowledgeable on that either. To conflate radical theocracy with secularism is insurmountably stupid. What most fundamentalist Christians actually want is theocracy. They are much closer to radical Islam than secularism or atheism is. The fact that they remain blind to this similarity is somewhat amazing, but mostly sad. During her senate run, Christine O’Donnell said the way women are treated in the Middle East is “refreshing”. And this is rather typical. I don’t even want to imagine what Newt Gingrich would say to that. But, if this is any indication:

He has also warned of the risk of radical Islam, as in a film called “America at Risk” that is grounded in the notion that “we are at war with radical Islamists – and it is a war we are losing.”

But the former House speaker seemed to conflate the two arguments over the weekend, suggesting that his grandchildren could eventually find themselves “in a secular atheist country” that is potentially dominated by “radical Islamists.” [Read more]

How could anyone even say something this stupid? Secular atheist country, maybe. I wish. But dominated by theocracy? That’s what we are fighting against. What our forefathers and mothers fought so arduously against. The fact that people say this while there are some that don’t call him out on this is sickening. It’s so infuriating to hear such ignorance from someone with power. My brain hurts even trying to follow this line of thinking.

The more secular nations may, for instance, outlaw burqas. So, what was he saying again?

Jesus vs Jesus AKA Jesvs vs Jeezus:

…Not that Jesus’ original stuff is all that great. The cartoonist made him look better with these chosen quotes on the left. The right, well, that’s obvious: he’s Jesus Douche. A douche with a capital BAG.

I enclosed a screen capture of the quote because the site that houses this quote (TVLoop) says they “will be shutting down Nov 30, 2010″. Hmm. So I chose not to link. Anyway, it’s Roger from American Dad.

What about Jesus’ thoughts regarding rape or slavery? He was not that great then, when his word was accurate. His so-called teachings were moderate at best. That being aside, where does the American religious right get their ideals from? I understand the conservative ideology (though I don’t agree with it in almost every way), but I don’t really get why they distort him. Yet, upon further reflection, I suppose I do. They cling to this notion of Jesus because, most likely, if Jesus ever existed as a person— he hung out with whores, probably smoked herb, had long hair. He was not the religious right’s idea of proper. So they cling to this fake ideal of Jesus who was created far more recently than the original. Whether or not Jesus did exist is not really important in the context of this post. If we agree that Jesus (even as a mythological character) spoke about some concepts, they seem to have been lost by the people who claim to understand him the most.

But what do I know? My people killed him, right? :P

Way to bring back rare childhood diseases, Jenny McCarthy. Mumps is now making a comeback.

A mumps outbreak on the East Coast — the largest in the United States in four years — may be spreading to Los Angeles County.
…
Four of the mumps cases may be related to an outbreak, largely among Orthodox Jews, that has persisted in New York and New Jersey for almost a year. According to the New York State Department of Health, there have been more than 2,800 confirmed and probable mumps cases in New York and 315 in New Jersey.

The religiously conservative and Jenny McCarthites unite to bring us back to a simpler time, void of vaccines. Oh, this isn’t going to be good. And I hope it doesn’t worsen.

Health officials have been concerned about a drop in childhood vaccinations based on allegations, since discredited, that vaccines cause autism. The Times in 2009 reported that a rising number of California parents were choosing to send their children to kindergarten without routine vaccinations, putting hundreds of elementary schools in the state at risk for outbreaks of childhood diseases eradicated in the U.S. years ago.

That’s right, “since discredited”. When will they learn?

As we are all aware of the user-edited Wikipedia. Conservatives now show us that if you don’t like a fact, change it! Conservapedia (notice the “.com” rather than the “.org”) is changing what facts don’t match up to the bible’s standards. According the Conservapedia:

Homosexuality is an immoral sexual lifestyle between members of the same sex. It is more than simply a sexual act, it is going beyond the boundaries that God has setup for marriage; one man and one woman.

A bit different from Wikipedia‘s entry which is dramatically longer and not nearly as barren:

Homosexuality can refer to both sexual behavior and sexual attraction between people of the same sex (please note gender and sex are not interchangeable terms); or to a sexual orientation. When describing a sexual orientation, it refers to enduring sexual and romantic attraction toward others of the same sex, but does not necessarily involve sexual behavior.[1] Etymologically, the word homosexual is a Greek and Latin hybrid with homo (often confused with the later Latin meaning of “man”, as in homo sapiens) deriving from the Greek word for same, thus connotating sexual acts and affections between members of the same sex, and including lesbianism.[2] [3] Homosexuality is contrasted with heterosexuality, bisexuality, and pansexuality. While the term gay often refers to a homosexual man, it sometimes refers to homosexual people of either sex. Lesbian denotes a homosexual woman.

There are scientific facts, theories, and explanations for just about everything religious conservatives tend to not understand (because they refuse to).

I’ve been using Wikipedia for a long time now. I’ve checked their articles against other sources. Never once have I received wrong, bad, or biased information. Wikipedia is not biased, just edited by people who know a fact or two. The mere idea that any group of people can just reassign dictionary definitions is quite perplexing. No one is above the law; no one should be above the facts. Truthiness may be fun in practice, but starting an entirely new “fact”-based website because you don’t like the actual facts is just plain sad.

Most people already know much about global warming. To sum up, the sun’s rays are getting trapped within the ozone enabling the polar ice caps to melt, temperatures to rise continually, storms to worsen, and species to die off. Polar bears have a very high chance of extinction in the near future; the penguin has little hope as well. Armadillos have been found in areas they never have been before, due to the increasing heat.

So who’s to blame? Plain and simple: humans. This is is due to the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere which is emitted mainly from fossil fuels. We’ve been told many times to cut back, but many Republicans have insisted on confusing the public. They plead it’s a liberal trick, plot, and/or scheme. Why on Earth would liberals make up such a threat? This issue deserves more attention before we ruin this beautiful planet. The mere thought that caring for others (whether human or not) is a liberal stance is strange to me, yet makes perfect sense. Conservatives don’t seem to want to raise the minimum wage, for example. This lack of compassion towards all humankind and animals alike disturbs me. Why do conservatives snicker at those who care? It’s rather self-defeating.
