Topless Bike Protest Upsets Hasidic Jews

I know this story is a few days old, but- wow.

NEW YORK — Bicyclists planning a protest ride through New York City are calling it their “Freedom Ride” – free of clothing, that is. The removal of clothing during Saturday’s ride is meant as a protest over the removal of a bike lane in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

Bicycling advocates say the city erased the bike lane from the Orthodox Jewish neighborhood because some conservative residents were upset about seeing women in skimpy clothing ride by every day.

The conservative Jewish faithful say that’s not the issue. They say it’s about safety. A Bloomberg spokesman notes that there is another bike lane nearby that is separated from car traffic.

The naked protesters, meanwhile, will face some fierce weather Saturday: Forecasters are predicting snow and brisk winds.

Well, if it’s all about safety, I get it. But really?

Get your Kabbalah Vodka chocked full of Christian Infants

Vodka

Mmm, sounds tasty.

Via Friendly Atheist:

It’s probably fake, though. We all know there are no such things as “Christian Infants.”

“Kabbalah Vodka with the Children of Christian Parents” just doesn’t have the same appeal, though…

Exactly. You may also read the explanation.

Medicine? Can’t the Rabbis just fight off the swine flu with a Shofar?

Rabbis attempt to fight off swine flu by blowing shofars. Accompanied by prayer, of course.

Via BBC News:

A group of rabbis and Jewish mystics have taken to the skies over Israel, praying and blowing ceremonial trumpets to ward off swine flu.

About 50 religious leaders circled over the country on Monday, chanting prayers and blowing the horns called “shofars”.

The flight’s aim was “to stop the pandemic so people will stop dying from it,” Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri was quoted as saying in Yedioth Aharanot newspaper.

The flu is often referred to as H1N1 in Israel, where pigs are seen as unclean.

Thanks to BBC for this gem I can’t unsee. Watch the video here.
