Carl Sagan, Exquisite World (Wallpaper)

Carl Sagan | Exquisite World

Using the same quote from a previous Carl Sagan image, I made this wallpaper. Also 2880 x 1800 pixels. The world is so exquisite, with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there’s little good evidence. Far better, it seems to me, in [...]

Carl Sagan, Exquisite World

Carl Sagan | Exquisite World

I also made this one. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there’s little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every [...]

Some say that believing in a god has an evolutionary benefit. I disagree.

Some say that believing in a god has an evolutionary benefit. I disagree.

I read this article yesterday at NPR regarding the evolutionary advantages of belief in a god(s) and the supernatural. While I understand the argument, I do not agree. Jesse Bering’s mother died of cancer on a Sunday, in her own bed, at 9 o’clock at night. Bering and his siblings closed her door and went [...]

Palestinian family evicted from their home of 70 years by Israeli settlers

Peace in this region seems to be but a myth. Israeli settlers took over a Palestinian home in the Muslim quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City today, evicting about 45 members of an extended family which has occupied the building for more than 70 years. The settlers claimed to have documentation to prove they had purchased [...]

The Ethics of Fear

The Ethics of Fear

Some theists will assert they couldn’t be good without god. To which I can only be weary and, quite frankly, a bit scared. The bible says nothing ill of rape or slavery– need I say more? Judging by the fact that many believers do not rape and enslave, it is safe to assume that they are more governed by the rule of law than that of a deity. This simply illustrates hows atheists can be good without god.

And abandon everything I believe in?

I don't believe in that

At some point, enough has to be enough. Catholics will have to make a decision as to either stay with a “church” that allows and covers up the molestation and rape of young boys and cast the current pope and priests aside in their minds as “not a real Catholics” or seek what they find in the Catholic church elsewhere.

Support for torture stronger among the faithful

According to CNN: More than half of people who attend services at least once a week — 54 percent — said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is “often” or “sometimes” justified. Only 42 percent of people who “seldom or never” go to services agreed, according to the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew [...]
