Holocaust: Reinventing a word to make it seem smaller

This is getting sick.

The Holocaust was a horrific atrocity and watershed event in human history. The meaning of the word is being distorted and demeaned in political rhetoric and casual comparisons.

Over the last few years, U.S. political discourse has been saturated with opponents accusing each other of Nazi-like policies or behavior. Most recently, it was California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown who likened the attack ads of Meg Whitman, his Republican opponent in the race for governor, to the tactics employed by Nazi propaganda chief Josef Goebbels.

Israel isn’t Perfection

Remember that time that an American criticized Israel? No, neither do I because it almost never happens. When Israel is criticized in America, its usually either by a anti-Semitic KKK white supremacist or anyone else who may be labeled as such. So watch what you say!

I support Israel in the sense that I want everyone to get along. And I care, I really do. However, I don’t understand this blind allegiance to the nation-state. Here, Jon Stewart refers to it as the “…möbius strip of issues. There’s only one side.”

I must blog now

Because I am utterly shaken and stirred. I just had a heated conversation someone who shall currently remain nameless, but is a fervent neo-conservative and not religious. That which seems to be so rare these days, I don’t know how to respond without somehow being offended. Especially when it comes to personal blows fueled from willful ignorance and unjustified frustration. (Side note: I don’t debate well and try to avoid it at all costs with most people.)
